Applying for funding

Project application and reports on the expenditure of funds

Requirements, general advice and content-related criteria

This page provides a summary of the most important things you need to know when making an application. The information ranges from requirements and general advice to content-related criteria used in the actual application process, and also covers the funding plus what happens once you have submitted your application.

The application process comprises several phases and it usually takes three months until the next possible project start date. You should plan at least a fortnight to prepare all the documents. We offer a helpline service to provide intensive support during the preparation process. If so desired, we can also review organisations’ applications during the pilot phase to give written feedback on how the formal, content-related and financial aspects can be adjusted to enhance funding eligibility.

Application deadlines

When does the funding application have to be submitted? There are different application deadlines depending on when your project is scheduled to start. The total cost is also a factor in deciding which deadline applies.

Next application deadline for funding amounts of 50.000 euros maximum: 31.12.2019

Next application deadline for funding amounts of 50.000 euros minimum: 30.09.2020

What form does the project funding take?

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) provides funding for up to 75 percent of the project’s overall expenditure. At least 25 percent of expenditure must be covered by the project partners themselves or by third-party funds. The latter can take the form of, for example, participant fees, donations or funding from local authorities or a German Federal Land.
