Collaboration with partners from the realms of sport and cultural education for children and youth
In the pilot phase of the weltwärts extracurricular exchange projects funding line, Engagement Global is working with strategic partners to provide funding specifically for applicants from the realms of sport and cultural education. This approach targets groups that have previously been under-represented and had little or no exposure to development topics. Other partners on the programme come from the areas of youth work and education and development cooperation.
To this end, Engagement Global, with assistance from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), has entered into a strategic partnership with the Deutsche Sportjugend (German youth sports association, “dsj”, part of the German Olympic Sports Confederation, “DOSB”) and the Bundesvereinigung Kulturelle Kinder- und Jugendbildung (federal association for cultural education for children and youth, “bkj”). Both associations began operating in March 2017 and advise and assist their member organisations in the application and project development processes. They provide the expertise required to combine sports or cultural education projects with development issues and the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs). They also run special training programmes for group leaders on how to conduct youth exchange projects. Intensive networking by both associations with potential applicants from Germany and the Global South leads to solid partnerships that provide a long-term basis for joint youth exchange projects and training for group leaders.
